Every year, more than 13-14 million windshields are manufactured. One of the most important role of windshields is to support roof of the vehicle. According to experts in Bangalore, driving with a cracked windshield is a danger to your life, as well as to the lives of the drivers around you. Therefore, it is extremely important to take good care of the car’s windshield.

Windshield is made of two layers of glass which sandwich an internal layer of car wellbeing glass. This inward layer, called the lamination, serves to hold together the softened external layers up the occasion of a mishap. This is the reason windshield cracks when struck by items, yet don’t go into disrepair and collapse upon the driver in most ordinary circumstances.

There are many other important features of the windshield like it allows proficient use of the heat and air conditioner. A good windshield protects the passengers from flying debris, harsh weather and pollution. It additionally gives aerodynamics at high speeds. The windshield must be resistant enough to withstand any accidents to be expected with normal traffic i.e. atmospheric and heat, chemical action and abrasion.  Windshield should be appropriately transparent so that no distortion is caused of any objects seen through it. And also, it should not cause any confusion between colours used in road traffic signalling. Windshields also protect against extreme weather conditions.

Disadvantages of a cracked windshield are-

1) A cracked windshield is not fit for giving a rooftop support to the vehicle, and it is not certain that it would be able to give a hard support to the airbag making it smash the glass instead of inflating forward.

2) A weakened windshield can also shatter, even during a non-severe accident, like a fender-bender, causing glass to fall on passengers and leading to a fatality.

The reasons for a crack in the windshield can also be dramatic temperature change which can lead to a slight expansion or contraction of the windshield.  Smaller chips can be easily fixable, but if the chip expands, it will likely need to be replaced.  A moving vehicle strikes the air causing it to deflect around windshield. This creates the area of high pressure and low pressure, if the windshield glass is not installed properly this pressure difference might result in a trim or a crack. Experts in Chennai advise that if the windshield is old and covered with small turfs, it should be replaced rather than repaired.

A cracked windshield can distract the driver, with poor visibility and risk the safety of the driver and passengers. Therefore, it is essential that the problem should be addressed immediately. The windshield repair must be performed to high standard. It is necessary that fixed glasses are made watertight by applying sealant/adhesives that good long term performance properties, but are flexible enough to allow for normal vehicle body movement.
